Sifted respects the personal data protection rights of Sifted’s users and is strongly committed to protecting the personal data of Sifted’s users. This privacy policy describes how Sifted collects and makes use of your data and the cookies Sifted uses. This privacy policy also describes your data protection rights, including a right to object to some of the processing that Sifted carries out or where Sifted relies on consent and how to withdraw that consent. Personal data Sifted collects directly from you

Sifted generally collects personal data directly from you when you interact with Sifted or make use of Sifted’s services. This includes:

  • your name and username;
  • your business address, email address and phone number;
  • some of your billing details, including a billing address;
  • your marketing preferences, including any consents you have given us.

Information Sifted collects automatically from your device

Sifted collects certain personal data directly from your device when you visit the website.
This includes, in particular, information related to the browser or device you use to access Sifted’s site such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, the date and time that you visited the site, the type of Internet browser and computer operating system, referral source, length of visit, page views and website navigation paths.

For any in-person events in which we operate badged access, information about your location may be stored. For example, you may be required to use your badge to gain access to certain areas, and this information will be used for future event planning.

Personal data Sifted collects from third parties

Sifted collects certain personal data directly from third parties who provide services to Sifted or carry them out on our behalf, such as payment services providers. This includes, in particular, your payment details, including credit card details, where you subscribe to Sifted’s services or buy products from us.

Purposes for which Sifted processes your information and legal basis for such processing

Sifted processes your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To fulfil a contract, or take steps linked to a contract, this includes:

    • To take payments and provide you with the requested services.
  • To conduct Sifted’s business and pursue Sifted’s legitimate interests, in particular:

With whom will Sifted share this data

Sifted may share your personal data with Sifted’s affiliates, third-party service providers, in a case of change in control, or with government authorities, as described below:

Service Providers

Your data may be shared with third-party service providers who will process it on Sifted’s behalf for the purposes identified above. Such third parties include providers of website hosting, maintenance, research and analytics solutions, IT services, advertisement display functions, related analytics for Sifted’s sites and identity-checking payment solutions. Sifted is sharing your data with them for various reasons including to allow them to help improve Sifted’s services, to conduct analytics services or to send you advertising messages (with your consent) on Sifted’s behalf.

Advertising Service Providers

Designated service providers assist Sifted with advertisement display functions and related analytics for Sifted’s sites.

Sale, Merger or Change in Control

In the event Sifted goes through a business transition, such as a merger, being acquired by another company, or selling a portion of its assets, users’ personal information will, in most instances, be part of the assets transferred. Therefore, it may be disclosed to Sifted’s advisers and any prospective purchaser’s advisers and will be passed to the new owners of the business and designated service providers.

International transfer of data

Where your personal data is transferred outside of the EEA and Switzerland, and where this is to an affiliate or service provider in a country which is not subject to an adequacy decision by the EU Commission, Sifted will take steps to ensure your personal information is adequately protected either by EU Commission approved Standard Contractual Clauses, an appropriate Privacy Shield certification in the case of transfers to the US, Binding Corporate Rules, or other appropriate safeguard. Websites of partners of Sifted and other websites you may access via the site, including social networking websites, have different privacy policies and are not subject to this privacy policy. Sifted recommends that users read the privacy statement of each such website to find out how they treat and protect your personal information. Sifted offers no warranties or assurances as to the policies of other websites and users visit and access these other websites at their own risk.

Security

Any data you provide to Sifted is kept on secure servers. Sifted uses reasonable administrative, technical, personnel and physical measures to safeguard such data against loss, theft, unauthorised use, disclosure or modification and to ensure the integrity of that data. To help us protect your privacy, you should maintain the secrecy of the login ID you may have set up in connection with your access to the site. If in Sifted’s reasonable opinion, Sifted considers that your ID has in any way been compromised and its use is contravening our terms & conditions, Sifted has the right to terminate access to the site at once and if appropriate to cancel without refund any subscription related to it.

Your Rights

You have the right to ask us: For confirmation on whether Sifted processes your personal data, certain information in this regard and a copy of your personal data undergoing said processing; To correct, complete, delete or restrict (stop any active) processing of your personal data; To exercise your right to portability, i.e., to obtain the personal data you provide to us for a contract or with your consent in a structured, machine-readable format; To ask us to share (port) this data to another controller.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU Member State of your residence, or the location where the issue that is the subject of the complaint occurred.

Wherever Sifted relies on your consent, you will always be able to withdraw that consent, although Sifted may have other legal grounds for processing your data for other purposes, such as those set out in this privacy policy. In some cases, further to the purchase of a Sifted product or service, Sifted is able to send you direct marketing without your consent, in which case Sifted relies on its legitimate interests. You have an absolute right to opt-out of direct marketing, or profiling Sifted carries out for direct marketing, at any time. You can do this by following the instructions in the communication where this is an electronic message, by logging in to your user account and changing the settings or by contacting us using the details set out below.

In addition, you can object to the processing of your personal data in some circumstances (in particular, where Sifted does not have to process the data to meet a contractual or other legal requirement, or where Sifted is using the data for direct marketing).

Retention of data

Where Sifted processes certain limited information about each user as part of the online registration process, Sifted does this for as long as you are an active user of Sifted’s sites, plus not less than 2 years thereafter.

Where Sifted processes personal data for marketing purposes or with your consent, Sifted processes the data until you ask us to stop and for a short period after this (to allow us to implement your requests). Sifted also keeps a record of the fact that you have asked us not to send you direct marketing or to process your data indefinitely so that Sifted can respect your request in future.

Where Sifted processes personal data for site security purposes, Sifted retains it for as long as you are an active user of Sifted’s sites, plus not less than 2 years thereafter.

Where Sifted processes personal data for online activity for analysis, Sifted retains it for as long as you are an active user of Sifted’s sites, plus not less than 2 years thereafter.

Where Sifted processes personal data in connection with performing a contract, Sifted keeps the data for 6 years from your last interaction with us, which is consistent with the period of time that we retain the related contract.

Changes to this notice

From time to time Sifted may make changes to this privacy policy to reflect any changes to Sifted’s privacy practices in accordance with changes to legislation, best practice or site enhancements. Sifted reserves the right to change this privacy policy at any time by posting revisions on this site, and notifying you of such changes when you visit Sifted’s site and/or by email.
